ACA SCHEDULE
Because ACA is deeply committed to its partnership with parents, we follow a unique condensed 4-day schedule. We also enjoy an extended Christmas break, allowing families to spend time together and complete work at home. We have a 34-week academic year: August-early December and January-May. This provides ample time for other work, education, travel and hobbies. We employ full-curriculum teachers, individual course teachers, teacher aides, and administrative personnel. Our Lower School meets from 8 am – 2:30 pm, and our Upper School meets from 8:00 am – 2:45 pm.
ACA TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES
ACA, together with the family, is committed to educating the whole person – spiritually, intellectually, emotionally and socially. ACA teachers and staff are responsible for creating and maintaining a respectful classroom, which allows for an effective learning environment. The teacher is responsible for planning, instruction, and designing comprehensive learning experiences. Teachers shall adhere to school curriculum guidelines, assess student learning, maintain student progress reports and attendance, and assist children in the formation of satisfying relationships with other children and adults. Beyond the stellar academics of our school, equal importance is given to Godly character formation.
ACA CLASSICAL PHILOSOPHY
To better understand our philosophy of classical education, we encourage all families to read the following:
- The Lost Tools of Learning by Dorothy Sayers
- What is Classical Education
- Why Latin is Not Optional
- The War Against Knowledge
- Top Ten Reasons to Learn Cursive
ACA TEACHER QUALIFICATIONS
ACA does not require state certification for teachers. We have found that our form of education works best when we seek those who share our values and have a natural teaching ability. Teacher qualifications include a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree, the display of sound scholarship, commitment to and willingness to learn a classical teaching philosophy, a passion for learning, evidence of superior teaching ability, and an unwavering commitment to our Lord Jesus Christ.
